In just the last 2.5 years since launch, the company has grown to count more than 1,000 digital marketing agencies and 16,000 businesses amongst its clients. In his 20-year career, Carlson has held numerous sales, marketing, and product related roles for international Internet companies. Carlson is an expert at sales and marketing disciplines, and bridging the gaps between them.
Prior to founding SharpSpring, Carlson was President of Panda Security US, an Internet security company, where he was responsible for the sales, marketing and strategic direction of one of the company’s fastest growing markets. Carlson also served as managing director of North American operations for AVG Technologies (NYSE: AVG), leading the AVG expansion of its consumer, SMB and OEM channels in the United States and Canada, as well as serving on the executive steering committee. Carlson led the acquisition of Exploit Prevention Labs and negotiated a $100M search monetization contract with Yahoo! which represented AVG’s single largest revenue stream. Prior to joining AVG, Carlson was CEO of a leading anti-spyware company, Aluria Software. Under Carlson’s leadership, Aluria established strategic relationships with several notable companies including AOL, EarthLink, Symantec and SoftBank. Carlson led the sale of the company to EarthLink in 2005, marking one of the largest security acquisitions by an ISP at the time. Following the acquisition, Carlson served as vice president of sales and marketing at Earthlink, securing numerous contracts and successfully leading the effort to productize EarthLink’s anti-spyware program to new and existing OEMs and ISVs.
